      Cactus moon

      Desert mermaid

      Beneath the sky looms

      The crows call

      In her curious eyes

      Uncharted mystery lies

      Her webs covered

      in sparkling diamonds

In the voice of the birds

      I remember my soul

      The cicadas

Invite me to sing with you

Your mind and body a map

      Your heart the compass

      You choose the paths

      Let the winds of change

      Love through you

      May you receive

      The fleeting moments

That beg you to treasure them

      The thorned flowers

      Are reminding you

      Of your power

      Listen

In the early hours of the morning in the Cederberg I rose from my mosquito kissed bed. The cool morning breeze a great relief to my skin, the morning clouds cooling the hot earth. I still didn’t know what my archetype or theme was for the photoshoot I was about to embark on. I had been mulling it over the whole week, the only thing sticking were poetic words forming into a collection of magical descriptions, from what I was feeling and seeing on the land. I could feel it well but not particularly articulate it.

I have many clear archetypes and themes waiting to be expressed here for this Self Capture challenge, but their timing isn’t just yet, for they require travel and particular details and patience with outfits and props. (PS if you have any outfit or props you think I’d love let me know - maybe you create them yourself and I can advertise them for you on here! Please contact me if so).

I put the outfit together while my family slept at sunrise, we were now tired and grateful from our weekend away together in the Cederberg. As I put my make up on, I trusted that what was meant to be portrayed, will. The wind wanted to play and when I felt her in my hair I remembered how I knew this would happen all along, somehow, she wanted to weave into the pictures, of course.

As I dodged ant homes and desert thorns my sister Eden helped me capture this week’s images. Since I had forgotten my tripod at home..

I guided Eden to what I felt needed to captured and she so lovingly did so, of course adding her artistic flair and creative eye.

Eden is an incredible artist and watching express her art after such dedication and attention to detail, awes me. You can view her art here: https://www.instagram.com/edenkingart/ keep following her journey, she’s going places with her unique talent and you might want to keep up with what she’s going to be doing and has done, especially if you are in the Cape Town art scene.

Thank you Edes, for always being there even when you haven’t always wanted to ;) I love you!
