      The Self Capture Collection

Every week a new: inspiration, archetype, poetic story and collaboration.

Once at 15 years old and now again at 27 years old, Rachel embarks on creatively photographying herself every week for a year, starting in January 2024. Follow along the enchanting journey below.

      The Story

At fifteen years old I created my first blog; Self Capture. I believe this was the catalyst and initial structure of my creative career. I remember letting my creativity freely bubble throughout the day while I went about living my homeschooled life with my younger sisters, whilst envisioning what I'd be concocting for my blog that evening. Then I'd hear the ring of my father's bicycle as he arrived home from his local journalism job and then, finally, I could use his camera; perfect timing as that's when the sun would be setting.

Just before I turned sixteen in 2012 I started Self Capture, I'd share a different themed picture every week with a song that flowed with the image and sometimes a poem I had written about it too. 52 times!

Self Capture was a methodical creative nest for me, and I'm learning that artist's/humans thrive in these. Every week I had a space to express myself, not realising then how pivotal moments in my life were being processed through the images I was creating and poetry I was writing alongside them, the synchronicity quite profound I can't believe I didn't see it then (my mom did though haha). Unfortunately my original Self Capture blog crashed and so you can't view it now, some mishap happened and I lost most of the images. I'll share some of the saved pictures I have on this blog post below.

Now once again, at twentyseven years old, Self Capture came knocking at my heart with a whole new level of depth and expression asking to be played with. I'm so curious for her unfolding. Dressing up and working with archetypes and expressing them in different ways is one of the ways I feel so close to my essence, giddily at home.

After loss or big disruptions I find that I can lose myself, or atleast feel that way, this especially happened when my father passed away in 2022. So now I continue the quest of connecting with my soul's expression through Sef Capture. The medicine... of following what lights you continues to awe me with it's love. Playing in the vast expression, characters and archetypes with this structure is a YES for me, so I am following the golden breadcrumbs into the uknown. I truly believe that when you start listening to your YES' and saying NO to things that don't light you up - this unlocks an amazing opportunity of living in your authentic expression. Your authenticity - this here is your superpower. We need each other's originality and authenticity.

      The Self Capture Collection; Collab!

This time round I am incorporating community collaboration. If you are an artist, designer or fellow creative that connects with my work please reach out to me. I want to help advertise your offerings and weave them into one of my weekly photoshoots; maybe it's a song you wrote or a dress or necklace you made, or a tincture from your business? Or an upcoming retreat, event, show? The sky's the limit! All you have to do is contact me at rachelkingalchemy@gmail.com or sacred_sessions on instagram and share your collab idea and I'll let you know if it's a YES from me. No payment required, just excited to help share your authentic creativity.

I look forward to the journey,

      Love,

      Rachel
